Ladies (and gentlemen), fitness guru Jess Flynn just moved to our neck of the woods! If you don’t know who Jesse is, here are a few of his stats:
- He is a former Canadian and U.S. college football player
- He has degrees in Kinesiology, Physical Education, and Sports Administration
- He has been delivering unbelievable weight loss and fitness results to his clients since his return to Montreal
- He is currently the most sought-after trainer in the West Island!
Stats aside, Jesse has a captivating personality! Upon my first meeting with him, I was impressed not only with his resume, but also with the passion and confidence with which he described his work with clients. While most of his clients are female (if you can’t guess why, take a look at his pic!), Jesse works with a wide array of clientele, including football players, fitness models, extreme weight loss clients and those who just want to look good and be healthy.
I decided that a mere description of Jesse isn’t enough. I want you to hear directly from Jesse. Here’s a Q & A I did with him recently:
Anna: What’s your fitness background?
Jesse: I went from playing football to coaching it. As I moved around from state to state with the profession, I transitioned from on-the-field coaching to in-the-gym strength and conditioning. While I love the ability to coach strength and conditioning to teams, personal training has become just as rewarding to me.
Anna: What’s your biggest success story to date?
Jesse: Helping people achieve their goals feels great. It’s like scoring high on a test. Knowing you and your client worked as a team so that they could in return look great and feel good is amazing. The biggest success story had to be when one of my clients was featured in The Gazette for losing 85lbs in 9 months. Every client has their story though, so when I get a client fitting perfectly into their wedding dress, or looking in top shape for summer feels just as good as knowing I helped them get there.
Anna: Jesse, what’s your secret – how is it that clients get unbelievable results with you? What makes you different from other fitness professionals?
Jesse: There is no one secret to getting results. There is a handful. While it may be a tough journey to get those results, I believe that if someone wants results badly enough, they will. I give them that motivation the entire way until not only do we achieve the goal, we surpass it! While most trainers have all studied the same thing, we all have our own specialties. I feel that with my experience playing football, coaching, and training at a high level really developed who I am as a personal trainer.
Anna: How do you stay fit yourself? What’s your training/diet regime?
Jesse: I train myself 5 days a week, because even I need to rest. I also have a very balanced diet year round.
Anna: What do you recommend in terms of frequency when training with you?
Jesse: I believe that the more you train with me the better the results. So while I have clients that I see once or twice a week with a good success rate, I definitely see much faster results with the clients I see three, four, or even five times a week! It allows me to become part of their daily lifestyle: “wake up, work/school, Jesse, dinner, tv, sleep, repeat”! It also allows me to keep track of their eating regimes, and bug them if I feel changes need to be made.
Anna: For my sport, I need an extremely strong core. What would you recommend to demolish my abs?
Jesse: In terms of strictly strengthening your core, “Bench Planks” are the absolute best way to go. However, I would only recommend this to someone who already has a good base for core strength as it can be very difficult and painful if not done properly.
Anna: What’s the #1 mistake people make when trying to reach their fitness goals?
Jesse: Expecting miraculous changes too fast and then giving up when changes don’t happen quickly enough.
Anna: What’s one last thing you’d like everyone to know about you?
Jesse: If you train with me, expect me to be not only your personal trainer but also your friend. I’ve developed amazing friendships with each of my clients so far and I love that about my job!
